Lakers Recall Bronny James Despite Mixed G League Showing

The Lakers have recalled Bronny James from the G League ahead of Monday's matchup with the Pistons, despite mixed results in his recent Winter Showcase performances. According to Marc Stein, James and fellow rookie Maxwell Lewis will be in uniform at Crypto.com Arena, where they could see action if LeBron James (left foot) and Anthony Davis (right elbow) remain questionable.

Bronny's recall comes after an uneven showing in Orlando. While he posted a solid line of 16 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals against the Greensboro Swarm, his follow-up performance raised familiar concerns. His six-point, seven-assist outing included troubling ballhandling miscues - getting picked in the backcourt, failing to clear the eight-second count, and committing a backcourt violation.

The rookie guard's G League stint has highlighted both his potential and his limitations. His struggles to create separation in isolation and inconsistent three-point shooting (7-of-33) suggest he's still adjusting to professional competition. A true shooting percentage of 45.4 underscores his ongoing offensive development needs.

The Lakers' decision to bring him back comes as they look to extend their three-game winning streak and improve on their 16-12 record, currently good for sixth in the Western Conference. While Detroit's league-worst record might present an opportunity for Bronny to see NBA minutes, his recent G League performances indicate he's still finding his footing at the professional level.

Monday's game tips off at 7:30 PM PST, airing on Spectrum SportsNet locally and NBA League Pass nationally, with FanDuel Sports Network carrying the Detroit broadcast.
