LeBron James added yet another milestone to his already legendary career Friday night, surpassing Michael Jordan for most 30-point games in NBA history during the Lakers' 119-102 victory over Atlanta.
The record-breaking moment came when LeBron landed a trademark fadeaway jumper over Onyeka Okongwu in the fourth quarter, giving James his 563rd career 30-point game. James finished with exactly 30 points on 13-of-20 shooting, adding eight assists in 30 minutes.
Post game, LeBron responded to the news of breaking Michael Jordan's record with praise for the former Bulls guard:
"It's very humbling, anytime I'm mentioned with any of the greats, and arguably the greatest ever to play the game, super cool. It's someone I idolized in my childhood, and I wear 23 because of him."
Yes, James did break MJ's record; however, he needed to play 470 more games to achieve the goal. LeBron's currently played in 1,523 games compared to Jordan's 1,053 games. Nevertheless, the Lakers star still holds the edge in efficiency over Jordan, shooting 50.6% from the field versus Jordan's 49.7%.
James's milestone highlighted his recent resurgence following a brief December slump. Since returning from a foot injury on December 15, he's averaging 27.4 points on 53.7% shooting (44.7% from three), 8.1 assists and 5.8 rebounds. The Lakers have won six of eight during this stretch, improving to six games over .500 for the first time since November 19.
Los Angeles has now won eight of their last 11 games heading into a two-game Texas road trip against Houston and Dallas.
