LeBron James contacting players on interested teams

LeBron James is keeping everyone in the dark on where he’ll play next, but at least he seems to be talking to some people.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, those people are fellow players. Team owners, however, remain in the same place as the rest of us — waiting to hear the final word from LeBron.

“The people in the league are all talking to each other, trying to find out what LeBron is thinking,” Windhorst said on The Hoop Collective podcast with Tim MacMahon. “There’s not a whole lot of information.”

“A whole bunch of NBA owners were up at the Sun Valley media conference last week in Idaho. … And some of the owners who were there and trying to get LeBron were talking to each other. And they were like, ‘Hey you heard anything?'”

Those questions, it seems, were met with a collective, Nope.

But while James apparently isn’t saying much to owners, general managers, coaches or bakery shop owners, he does seem to be talking to colleagues.

“LeBron is reaching out and talking to players on some of these teams and they report back to their GM or coach (and say), ‘Hey, LeBron called,'” Windhorst said.

What does it all mean? Well, it means we don’t really know anything more on where LeBron will play next.

For the record, those who have spoken to Hoops Wire say they believe the Cavs are the frontrunners. The Warriors, 76ers and Heat are also believed to be in the mix, with the Nuggets and Timberwolves also receiving the occasional mention.

Many believe James will announce his decision before the weekend. He is expected to appear at Fanatics Fest in New York on Thursday and Friday. By then, we should know. Then again, maybe not. This is, after all, LeBron free agency in 2026.
