The Lakers secured a crucial win over the Pacers on 26 March, 2026 (137-130). Speaking with The Athletic’s Dan Woike soon after the game, LeBron provided a clear assessment of Bronny’s performance.

For months, a serious question about his place on the professional roster has followed Bronny James across the NBA. LeBron spoke not just as a proud father but as a team player, making a public declaration.

“I’m super proud of him. And he belongs. He belongs,” LeBron said.

Injuries to key rotation players like DeAndre Ayton, Marcus Smart, and Rui Hachimura opened a window for Bronny. Given the opportunity, Bronny played 13 minutes off the bench. He scored 4 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 2 steals, and 1 block. The main spotlight of his play was a one-handed baseline dunk off a pass from Luke Kennard.

The head coach, JJ Redick, praised his impact. “He’s gotten significantly better. Our staff has a lot of confidence in him. Felt like this was a game where we really needed him. … He had two really, really good defensive possessions, individual defense, in the first half. The biggest thing with him is he’s got a lot of confidence right now. His athleticism and defense stood out.”

Bronny’s Journey  is More Than Spotlight and Scrutiny

During a summer workout at USC in July 2023, Bronny suffered a sudden cardiac arrest that brought his basketball career to a sudden halt. This led to uncertain medical clearance procedures.

When Bronny entered the 2024 NBA Draft, there was a massive public debate on his selection. Many pointed to nepotism, doubting whether he earned his spot or benefited from his father’s legacy.

He played a very limited role during his 2024-25 rookie season, logging low minutes and less production. In the 2025-26 season, he continued to face criticism while splitting his availability between the NBA roster and the G League.

Despite the outside noise, his growth is quite impressive. In the G League, he has averaged 15.3 PPG. On the main roster this season, his averages sit at 7.2 minutes and 2.1 PPG.

LeBron expanded on the emotional weight of the night and his son’s long road back to the floor. “Real, meaningful minutes. I couldn’t dream of better. I couldn’t dream of something better than that. Just couldn’t. He added that Bronny is finally “back,” returning to form “physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally.”

There were no public postgame quotes from Bronny regarding the performance, the victory, or his father’s heavy praise. Do you think Bronny has proven his place in the NBA?
