LeBron James has stirred up a storm of speculation after dropping a teaser video on his social media channels, promising what he’s calling the ‘decision of all decisions’ on October 7th.

He’s referring to it as his ‘Second Decision’, and fans are already buzzing about what it could mean.

Retirement seems to be the most popular theory, and it wouldn’t come as much of a shock given where LeBron is in his career.

He’ll turn 41 in December and is set to become the first player in NBA history to play 23 seasons.

Ramona Shelburne suggests LeBron James’ announcement is nothing to get ‘all worked up’ about

While the signs are pointing toward a retirement announcement, there’s always the possibility it turns out to be something else entirely.

James has used similar videos for sponsorship announcements before, so this might just be another one.

He’s already been involved in Amazon’s Prime Day 2025 campaign, and his latest announcement is scheduled for that same day.

Ramona Shelburne from ESPN isn’t convinced that this will be his retirement call. “We all saw this and thought ‘whoa is he announcing something?’… Just from vibes, texts, I don’t know if we should get all worked up about it. He did this earlier in the summer and it ended up being an ad.”

LeBron James is still performing at a high level

James may be approaching 41, but he hasn’t lost his touch. He’s still playing at an All-Star level and remains a huge part of the Lakers’ plans.

No one really knows what’s keeping him going at this stage, but his production hasn’t dropped off. The Lakers know he can still contribute in a big way.

Last season, James put up averages of 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds per game for Los Angeles — and there aren’t any clear signs that his numbers will take a big hit anytime soon.

If James does play another year, it might be his last with the team since he’ll become an unrestricted free agent in the summer.
