It’s a Lakers problem rather than a LeBron problem! At 41 years old, the Los Angeles superstar is keeping his knees juiced up; however, he didn’t expect to have the keys to the Lakers’ offense handed back to him in full. Throughout a structured season, James had settled into a refined role, averaging 21 points and 7.2 assists while letting Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves handle the heavy lifting.
However, with both guards sidelined with significant injuries just a week before the postseason, circumstances have forced King James to turn back the clock.
Following a dominant 101-73 victory over the Phoenix Suns, where James tallied 28 points and recorded his 12,000th career assist, he was candid about the sudden shift.
“Sounds pretty cool… sounds pretty good,” he said. “I would love to get that 3-0 nod, though. But I’m just trying to make plays. I had to tap back into a role that I’ve been accustomed to in the past, but obviously it wasn’t what it was this year. Circumstances have put me back here, and I’m just trying to feed off my teammates. Teammates feeding off me, and just trying to make things happen so we can continue to stay afloat.”

Given his honest comments, the statistical jump has been startling. Over his last three outings, James is averaging 28.0 points and 12.7 assists on 60% shooting. From what he has learned over two decades, his playmaking has gone far beyond just picking spots.
Despite the vintage production, the Akron-born forward is realistic about the challenge ahead. With a first-round matchup against the Houston Rockets looming, he emphasized leadership over individual heroics, noting that while home-court advantage rewards the fans, players play the game in “between the four lines.”
The Los Angeles Lakers’ championship aspirations were supposed to be on life support. When injuries sidelined Doncic and Reaves for the remainder of the regular season, the narrative surrounding the purple and gold shifted instantly from contender to cautionary tale.
Most rosters would crumble, losing their top two scorers, but most rosters don’t have a 41-year-old LeBron James ready to dig into the back of his closet for a familiar cape.
Faced with a three-game skid and a plummeting seed, James has responded with a vintage stretch that has silenced the skeptics. After a brilliant 26-point, 11-assist performance to take down Golden State on Thursday, the NBA’s oldest player suited up for a grueling back-to-back on Friday.
While James spent much of this season as a high-level third option behind Doncic and Reaves, the current crisis has demanded he resume his status as the sun around which the Lakers orbit.
