LeBron James Jokes How Victor Wembanyama Is Forcing Him Into Retirement

On the topic of his retirement, James explained how he knows he's approaching the end when he goes against Victor Wembanyama.

“I can't play that much further," said James. "The more and more time that I play, as long as Wemby keeps smacking my f***ing shots into the stands, it’s gonna make me retire.” 

The only thing better than that comment from LeBron was Wemby's comment, which was a true nod to LeBron's longevity.

"You might retire after me," said Wemby.

LeBron's continued dominance after 22 years, at the age of 40, is unprecedented in the NBA, and he's set a new standard for longevity. In a historic campaign for James, where he played alongside his eldest son, he averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game on 51.3% shooting.

Still, even though his body can hold up, LeBron has already been teasing his retirement, which is likely to happen sooner rather than later. As a free agent this summer, James is expected to sign a short-term contract that will let him decide his playing future one year at a time.

For James, one of the biggest signs of his age and heavy mileage is playing against Victor Wembanyama.
