Lin-Manuel Miranda loves the Knicks-Hamilton fan edits
Seth Harrison-USA TODAY NETWORK.

During the hype of the New York Knicks’ championship, fans began making edits using music from Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway musical Hamilton.

Miranda recently organized a rendition of “New York, New York” after a performance of Hamilton in honor of the Knicks. However, he was just as overwhelmed by the fans of the team using his music for their edits.

“I’ve been thrilled to see the ‘The Schuyler Sisters’-Knicks edits, there’s so many Hamilton Knicks edits on TikTok,” Miranda raved.

He knows it’s a “small list” of musicians associated with the Knicks. Miranda is now in elite company with the likes of Alicia Keys (“Empire State of Mind”) and Frank Sinatra (“Theme from New York, New York”), and he’s “just happy to be in the rotation.”

Hamilton’s role in the Knicks’ championship

As Miranda noted, fans have started using the fifth song from Hamilton, “The Schuyler Sisters,” in edits with the Knicks. Of course, the song shows a lot of love for New York City, where the Knicks play. A native New Yorker, Miranda was likely watching closely and rooting for the Knicks.

Hamilton is a popular Broadway musical that has been open since January 2015. It became a pop culture phenomenon upon its premiere. Other productions in London, England, Australia, and Germany have opened, and it has been taken on tour.

Before creating Hamilton, Miranda also created In the Heights. His work has resulted in several awards, including three Tony Awards.

The Knicks just brought home the franchise’s first championship since 1973. They beat the San Antonio Spurs in five games to win the NBA Finals.

Jalen Brunson was named MVP of the NBA Finals after averaging 32.6 points per game. His heroics in Game 5, scoring 45 points while making more than half of his shots, helped secure the championship for the Knicks.
