Although he’s getting older this season, there’s no denying how impressive LeBron James has been at this point of his career. This is one of the factors why ESPN included the Los Angeles Lakers star in its top 10 NBA players ahead of the upcoming season.

As the 2024-25 NBA season approaches, LeBron James remains a pivotal figure for the Lakers. At 39 years old, he continues to defy expectations, showcasing his remarkable longevity and skill. Despite entering the twilight of his career, James still delivers elite performances, averaging around 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists last season. This season poses new challenges, particularly in a fiercely competitive Western Conference. With the Lakers aiming for a championship, James’s leadership will be crucial as they navigate a roster filled with talent. His experience in high-pressure situations will guide younger players while helping to foster team chemistry.

However, questions linger about whether Father Time will finally catch up to him. Injuries have been a concern in recent seasons, and maintaining his health will be essential for the Lakers’ success. If James can stay fit, he has the potential to lead his team deep into the playoffs, adding to his legacy.

Moreover, the dynamics of the Western Conference are shifting, with several teams bolstering their rosters. The Lakers will need to leverage James’s unique skill set and basketball IQ to stay competitive. As the season unfolds, fans will be eager to see how he balances his scoring with facilitating plays for teammates.

Without a doubt, James is still a player that warrants respect on the court. This is backed up  by ESPN’s inclusion of the Lakers star in its top 10 NBA players today.

2023 Rank: 9

Why he rose 2 spots: The best basketball players in the world descended on Paris this offseason to compete in the Summer Olympics, vying for the gold medal and national pride. When it was all said and done, James won the third gold medal of his career and was named tournament MVP — another win in his unrelenting battle against Father Time.

Anyone who watched him spark a second-half comeback against Serbia by guarding Nikola Jokic on one end and attacking the hoop on the other was reminded exactly who LeBron is when the chips are down. And the fact that he put up 25.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 7.3 assists in his 21st season while becoming the first player in history to top 40,000 career points again reaffirm ed his elite level in the game at 39 years old.

LeBron James has been ranked seventh in ESPN’s NBA Rank as he enters his 22nd NBA season. This rise from ninth reflects his impressive performance, including winning a gold medal and being named MVP at the recent Olympics.

Despite being 39, James continues to deliver elite statistics and showcases remarkable durability, playing 71 games last season. The biggest storyline for this season will be his potential to play alongside his son, Bronny, marking a historic moment in the league.
