After falling in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic saw his eighth NBA season come to an end.
It was certainly an emotional year for Doncic, who led the Dallas Mavericks to the 2024 NBA Finals before being traded to the Lakers in a blockbuster deal for Anthony Davis.
Still, Doncic performed well in his 28 regular-season games with the Lakers, leading them to the No. 3 seed in the West while averaging 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 7.7 assists.
But before Doncic was the No. 3 pick in the 2018 NBA draft, he was playing overseas for Spain's Real Madrid.
Doncic played for Real Madrid from 2015 to 2018, competing in both Liga ACB and the Euroleague. His best season came in 2017-18 in Euroleague play, when Doncic tallied 16.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists.
But Doncic recently had some reason to celebrate his former team. On Tuesday, Real Madrid secured an 86-79 win over Unicaja in Game 4 of the ACB Playoffs, securing a spot in the finals.
Doncic reacted to his former teammate making the playoffs by sharing a post from Real Madrid on his Instagram Story.
Real Madrid, eyeing a second-straight championship, will take on Valencia in the ACB Finals starting June 20
As for Doncic, he’ll now have a full offseason to settle in with the Lakers following the blockbuster trade in February. With championship hopes still alive, Los Angeles will likely look to add a starting center to complement its stars and make another title push alongside LeBron James.
