Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic made headlines last offseason when he completely transformed his body to get into the best shape of his life.
The results followed as Doncic had arguably the best season of his career before blowing out his left hamstring at the end of the regular season. Doncic was not close to returning in the playoffs, unfortunately, but he did everything he could to get back on the court as quickly as possible. Now heading into the offseason, Doncic’s focus is shifting to getting ready for next season and he is already running back his same diet from last offseason, per Dan Woike and Sam Amick of The Athletic:
He’s already begun the same strict offseason diet he undertook to transform his body last summer and is currently pain-free in the hamstring, positive signs for his long-term health.
The expectation is that he won’t be limited in his offseason preparation for next year, the Lakers’ top priority in a good position to lead whatever roster the Lakers put alongside him.
When the Dallas Mavericks traded Doncic to the Lakers, they made it clear that they did not feel he was capable of getting into great shape and maintaining it. That served as a bit of a wake-up call for the 27-year-old, who has always been one of the greatest talents in the league but so far has not been able to put it all together to win a title.
It’s great to see that Doncic is again taking his diet seriously as he begins to prepare for the 2026-27 season. If the Lakers are going to get back into true championship contention, then they will need a healthy Doncic leading the way and terrorizing the league, much like he did for most of 2025-26.
When Doncic first got traded to the Lakers, it came as a major shock to everyone, including himself. He envisioned spending his entire career with the Mavericks, so naturally he was a little taken back by being traded out of nowhere.
Now that he has spent a full season in L.A. though, Doncic recently spoke about how much more comfortable he feels playing for the Lakers.
“I feel very comfortable. I like living here, I like playing for the Lakers,” Doncic said at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season. “It’s the best organization in the world. Just being a Laker means a lot to me. Like I said, I feel very good here. There’s nothing else to add to that.”
