Despite looking better than they have in recent outings, Luka Doncic and Slovenia couldn’t get the result they needed at EuroBasket.

Slovenia entered the tournament struggling for form, and their opening loss to Poland didn’t help matters.

That meant they faced a tough assignment in their second game against France, one of the favourites heading into EuroBasket.

Doncic put up a fight and did what he could to keep his side in it, but France came away with a 103-95 victory.

Luka Doncic scored 39 points as Slovenia fell short against France in their second game at EuroBasket. The guard did his best to get them over the line and was close to a triple-double.

Slovenia had taken the lead in the third quarter, with Doncic carrying much of the load, but when he came out of the game, they lost control and never managed to regain it in the fourth.

Doncic finished with 8 rebounds and 9 assists along with his 39 points, despite shooting just 8-20 from the floor.

Luka Doncic reflects on defeat

Speaking to local media after the loss, Doncic said he was encouraged by how his team played, “I think we proved that we can do it, all the guys fought, really all credit to everyone.”

As reported by Siol, the NBA star also admitted he let his emotions get the better of him during the game.

“The boys did a good job, everyone who stepped on the court gave their all. Like I said, France is a great team, unfortunately we lost, but we now have to learn something from this defeat.

“I know that sometimes I lose my temper, but I try to help the team. I do all this out of good will; no one wants anything bad and I think we are getting better every day.”

If Slovenia’s rough start continues though, he could be heading back to Los Angeles sooner than expected.
