Magic agree on four-year deal to make Jamahl Mosley new head coach

Denver Nuggets assistant Wes Unseld Jr. was also a candidate for the position, Wojnarowski adds. 

Mosley spent seven years working on Rick Carlisle's staff in Dallas and emerged as his top assistant and associate head coach. According to Wojnarowski, the 42-year-old developed a strong reputation for player development and built a solid relationship with Mavericks star Luka Doncic. 

Player development will be a key focus in Orlando after the Magic signaled a full rebuild with midseason trades of Nikola Vucevic and Evan Fournier during the 2020-21 campaign.

The shift to a rebuild brought on the departure of former head coach Steve Clifford, who mutually agreed to part ways with the franchise this summer after three seasons in Orlando. 

The Magic are hoping to develop their team around young talent, including Markelle Fultz, Cole Anthony, Mo Bamba, Chuma Okeke and Jonathan Isaac. 

Mosley will face a difficult task, but based on his solid track record of developing young players, the Magic feel he was the best for the job.
