What a difference a few weeks can make for the Orlando Magic. The sky seemed to be falling on Orlando just two weeks ago when they lost to the Philadelphia 76ers in the 7/8 play-in tournament matchup.
But fast forward to Monday night, and the Magic are now just one win away from advancing to the second round of the playoffs after taking a gritty 94-88 victory in Game 4 of their first-round matchup against the Detroit Pistons to build a 3-1 series lead.
Not too many expected the Magic to make it this far, let alone push the Pistons to the brink of elimination. Orlando simply matches up well against Detroit, as they are a very physical team that can match Detroit’s athleticism across all positions.
While everything is looking rosy for the Magic, head coach Jamahl Mosley, whose job looked to be in danger not too long ago, is channeling his inner Kobe Bryant as he does not want his team to get ahead of itself.
“Yall remember the Kobe Bryant one…what was the statement? Job’s not done. That’s the reality. We put ourselves in the position to go and take care of another one. That’s all we got. The job’s not done. So we got to go to Detroit, find a way to get it done there,” Mosley told his players in the locker room after their Game 4 win, via Oh No He Didn’t on X (formerly Twitter).

The Pistons will be giving it their all in Game 5, so the Magic have to be prepared for the counter-punch the Eastern Conference’s one-seed has in store for them. They cannot let their guard down, as Detroit won 60 games in the regular season for a reason.
But considering how well the Magic have played through the first four games of the series, especially on defense, it would be a huge surprise if they get punched in the mouth in Game 5 on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM E.T.
