NBA free agent Guard Malik Beasley has signed with Puerto Rican rapper, singer, and record producer Bad Bunny’s Puerto Rican team, the Santurce Crabbers, per ESPN. Read on for further details surrounding his latest signing in professional basketball.
On Friday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported to X, formerly Twitter, “Free agent Malik Beasley has signed a deal to play in Puerto Rico for Grammy Award-winning artist Bad Bunny’s team Santurce Crabbers, both parties tell ESPN. The team’s season begins in March. Beasley has been under NBA and FBI investigations for gambling allegations.”
As expected, Charania’s report to X attracted ample attention. One user responded, “Kid Rock got Myers Leonard (former NBA center who played in the league from 2012 to 2023).” Another user replied, “Malik Beasley joining Bad Bunny’s team. PR vibes.”
Beasley, now 29, last played for the Detroit Pistons during the 2024-25 NBA season. His stint with the Pistons essentially ended following the United States Attorney’s office’s public announcement that he was under investigation for gambling and placing prop bets on NBA games.
He averaged 11.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game, along with 42.6% shooting from the field, 39.1% shooting from three-point range, and 76.9% shooting from the free throw line during his NBA career.
Although he’s under investigation, he was still ranked as the best player available on the open market, according to a July 2025 report by HoopsHype. Despite his legal challenges, his market remains strong, due to his shooting volume from three, defensive presence, and quickness and agility.
His ability to handle the transition game, along with his overall shooting volume, makes him a valuable teammate for any team.
His return to the NBA remains uncertain due to his ongoing investigations, but his recent signing with Bad Bunny’s Puerto Rican team can work wonders in terms of talent. However, his return may or may not happen, even if he never gets charged, arrested, and/or sentenced for his alleged crimes, as he remains under scrutiny by both the NBA and the FBI.
