Steve Ballmer might be the richest sports owner in the world. But all that money cannot help him if the allegations against him and the Los Angeles Clippers turn out to be true.
Bloomberg claims he is worth $174 billion and has enjoyed a $27.1 billion increase in the last financial year. Therefore, the $28 million he allegedly rerouted to star player Kawhi Leonard will be nothing but chump change for him.
Even if the NBA were to fine him a colossal amount of money, it could not do enough damage to his wealth. He has the money to buy the Clippers 10 times over and still not sweat about the team’s future cash flow.
That is why fellow billionaire and minority-owner of the Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban, believes the allegations are too good to be true. He believes Ballmer is too smart to get into something knowing it could harm his team.
He has the money to pay his fine, but the Clippers can be assessed penalties that could stop them from being competitive for a long time. That is where Cuban believes the Pablo Torre investigation does not make sense.
Steve isn’t that dumb… They got scammed by Aspiration, along with many others. Crimes for which they pleaded guilty last week. Scammers do scammy things. They did a $300m sponsorship deal with the clippers in 2021.

As much as I wish they circumvented the salary cap, First Steve isn’t that dumb. If he did try to feed KL money, knowing what was at stake for him personally, and his team, do you think he would let the company go bankrupt ? Knowing all creditors would… https://t.co/AxvMoLmPv7
The Cost Plus Drugs founder believes Steve Ballmer has been caught up in this just because he invested in the company, Aspiration, which ended up going bankrupt. What they did on the side with Kawhi Leonard might not be his fault.
Investigative journalist Pablo Torre and his team got their hands on more than 3000 pages worth of possible proof that Aspiration, the company Steve Ballmer invested in, paid $28 million to Kawhi Leonard.
The investigation talks about how the 34-year-old star received that money despite not showing up for a single commercial or photo shoot. But Mark Cuban believes the Clippers owner has been needlessly pointed out as the culprit.
It’s sad that Pablo Torre didn’t take the time to find out how these scammers pulled off their scam. The idea that the default is Ballmer is the bad guy is going to backfire on him.

It seems the Mavericks’ minority owner is asking why his fellow NBA team owner is being blamed for this. It is as if the Microsoft investor did not intentionally do anything to send an underhanded payment to his star player.
In any sport, it is not uncommon for team owners to support each other, but in this case, Mark Cuban might have asked a question that could turn the NBA’s investigation into another area. After all, Kawhi Leonard’s questionable actions and demands in the past have caused some raised eyebrows.
Now that Steve Ballmer, the Los Angeles Clippers, and Kawhi Leonard are squarely in the frame of everyone who has a fair idea about the NBA, it will not be a surprise if other allegations surface.
From what I know from sources – when Kawhi signed with the Clippers the Toronto owner Larry Tannebaum was beside himself. Because he believed he bent over backwards for Kawhi – including calling three sponsors to meet Kawhi’s demand of an extra $15 million in endorsement money.

These are just his sources telling John Gambadoro about an alleged underhanded endorsement money that Kawhi Leonard demanded. The radio host also revealed that this had been brought to the attention of the NBA.
This story is fascinating. From what I know from sources – when Kawhi signed with the Clippers the Toronto owner Larry Tannebaum was beside himself because he believed he bent over backwards for Kawhi – including calling three sponsors to meet Kawhi's demand of an extra $15… https://t.co/VVTxvA14Lj

However, it was understood that Toronto Raptors owner Larry Tanenbaum did not fully understand what he was getting into. Once he realized, he backed out of it, and Leonard returned to Los Angeles after winning a championship with the Raptors.
