Mark Cuban’s Son Jake Cuban Fights Back Fan On ‘Sell Mavericks’ Comments After Luka Doncic Trade

Former Dallas Mavericks majority owner Mark Cuban saw the franchise trade Luka Doncic to the LA Lakers for Anthony Davis on Saturday. Since selling his controlling stake in the organization in 2023, his son Jake Cuban has had to deal with social media trolls who questioned his decision, but he has been doing just fine in clapping back at them.

Only a few days removed from the trade that shook the entire NBA, many are still baffled by the Mavericks’ decision to let go of Doncic. While Davis is a high-caliber player, Doncic is a young superstar who is yet to reach his prime.

Following the trade news, Mark Cuban’s 13-year-old son posted a photo of him and his friends wearing Doncic jerseys on Instagram, saying that he will continue to support “Luka Magic” in his new team. Some critics emerged to call out his father in the comments section, with Jake responding to one particular comment.

Since selling his majority stake, Cuban has stepped away from the decision-making processes within the Mavericks organization. The Mavs are now run by the Dumont and Adelson families, but he is still a minority owner, though he is no longer privy to the team’s trade moves, making him unaware of the Doncic trade before it happened.

Despite his decision to sell his majority stock in the franchise, Cuban is still a billionaire with a $6.5 billion net worth, per Celebrity Net Worth.

Old Mark Cuban quote resurfaces following Luka Doncic trade

Mark Cuban was known for his loyalty to his star talents during his time as the majority owner of the Dallas Mavericks. He has been particularly loyal to Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki, and many believe he would have been just as loyal to Luka Doncic and prevented the trade from happening.

In 2020, the “Shark Tank” star was asked about the idea of trading Doncic, who, at the time, was becoming a rising star in the NBA. In a controversial response that has since gone viral, Cuban said that if he had to choose, he would rather keep Luka in Dallas over staying married to his wife.

Bleacher Report unearthed Cuban’s quote and posted it on X following the blockbuster trade that saw Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis switch teams.

Many expected Doncic to carry the Mavericks in the foreseeable future, but it is no longer what will happen. Instead, Dallas will move forward with the newly formed duo of Davis and Kyrie Irving.
