Dallas Mavericks rookie forward Cooper Flagg continues to cement himself as one of the best young talents in the NBA. After missing eight consecutive games due to a left foot sprain, Flagg returned to action on Thursday against the Orlando Magic.
The club missed the former Duke standout, who only participated in four games in February. Flagg returned to scoring on the court, which is what he does best, in his first game back. In the first quarter, he had four points on a not-so-efficient 1-for-5 shooting.
His first four points helped the Mavericks forward to reach an NBA milestone in his young career.
At just 19 years old, Flagg became the second-youngest player to score 1,000 points. He joined a historic group of NBA legends who have reached the feat. Some of the other stars to have the same achievement are LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Devin Booker and Anthony Edwards.
The Mavericks recognized Flagg's achievement.
"1️⃣K points for THE ROOK Cooper becomes the second-youngest player in NBA history to reach 1,000 points " the team posted.

What's impressive is that he did it in just 50 games. Ahead of the Mavericks' contest against the Magic, Flagg was averaging 20.4 points through 49 games. The youngster has shown that he can find a way to score, despite the challenging defenses that NBA teams put on him.
Aside from reaching the 1,000-point mark, Flagg also had another milestone. According to ESPN, the Mavericks rookie became the ninth player in the NBA to post 1,000 points, 300 rebounds and 200 assists in his first 50 games. The only other players to do that were Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic and former Chicago Bulls star Michael Jordan, since the 1976–77 merger.
Although the team missed his presence, they are not risking his health. Ahead of the contest, head coach Jason Kidd revealed to the media that Flagg will be under a minutes restriction. The three-time Western Conference Rookie of the Month will be limited to 20-25 minutes, per Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning Post.
The team needs players recovering from specific injuries to get accustomed to the NBA burden, but minute restrictions won't last long. Before his injury, Flagg was averaging 34.1 minutes, the most on the team. The rookie forward is one of three Mavericks players averaging at least 30 minutes.
