Mavericks Picking Up Option On Ryan Nembhard

The Mavericks plan to exercise their option on Ryan Nembhard‘s 2026/27 contract, Marc Stein of The Stein Line tweets.

Their decision to pick up Nembhard’s $2,150,917 salary was a mere formality for one of the league’s biggest pleasant surprises this past season. Nembhard went undrafted despite a strong college resume at Creighton and Gonzaga, where he led the nation in assists (9.8 per game) as a senior with the Bulldogs.

Nembhard appeared in 60 games (27 starts) with the Mavericks as a rookie, averaging 6.6 points and 5.3 assists in 19.5 minutes per game. He shot 41.5% from the field, including 35.6% from long range, and earned a promotion in February from his two-way contract to the standard roster. He figures to be in the mix for the second-string point guard spot behind returning star Kyrie Irving, assuming Irving isn’t dealt this offseason.

Nembhard is currently on the 16-man roster for Team Canada’s upcoming FIBA World Cup qualifying window. He will then join the Mavericks for summer league action after his stint with the national team, according to Stein (Twitter link).
