Mike Conley reveals what the Minnesota Timberwolves are asking Anthony Edwards to do on the defensive end next season.

The Minnesota Timberwolves will be more reliant on Anthony Edwards than ever before heading into the 2025-26 NBA season.

And it appears the star is aware of this and has made the necessary changes. Edwards reportedly worked on his mid-range game during the offseason to help his scoring.

Edwards impressed the Timberwolves GM with his dedication to watching film and studying the game to get better.

Even Donte DiVincenzo praised Edwards for his improvement. But his teammates want Edwards to be a defensive machine next season.

Timberwolves want Anthony Edwards to be a top-five perimeter defender

The Minnesota Timberwolves are backing Anthony Edwards to take a leap as a defender. In fact, Mike Conley says the squad is holding the star to a standard.

All of the players are demanding that Edwards guard players like an elite perimeter defender, like they know he can be. And while it might be uncomfortable, they believe Edwards can do it.

“Guard like you’re a top-five perimeter defender in the league, which we believe you are.

“Whoever is out on the court, we have a job to do, and then we’ve got to be consistent .. With [Ant] competing the way he can compete, we’re a completely different team.

“He knows it, and it’s going to require a lot more. It’s going to get him uncomfortable, a little bit.”

Anthony Edwards could be set for MVP-level season

If Anthony Edwards is able to do what the Minnesota Timberwolves ask of him, he could have his best season yet.

However, that isn’t as simple as one might imagine. Edwards’ discipline issues are a needless distraction, and he needs to keep himself in check.

And it isn’t just his defense that needs to take a leap. Edwards must become a better playmaker to help the Timberwolves on the offensive end as well.

While it’s a lot of responsibility for one star to shoulder, that is what Edwards needs to do if he wants to be the best player in the league.
