The nightmare that was the 2025-26 season for the Milwaukee Bucks has mercifully come to an end. Ahead lies an uncertain off-season with the future of Giannis Antetokounmpo hanging in a delicate balance. According to him, his relationship with the organization is on the rocks; but he does want to find a way to move forward with the Bucks (or so he says).
Regardless of what happens with Giannis and Milwaukee, there is now one thing that is certain: Doc Rivers will not be the team’s head coach moving forward.
Almost immediately after Milwaukee’s final game of the 2025-26 season, which they lost, it was reported that Rivers is not going to return to the Bucks as their head coach next year:

However, he will remain with the organization in an undetermined front office role as he has one year left on his contract with the Bucks.
The exact dollar amount is not known, but he will be paid eight figures.
Milwaukee finished the regular season 32-50, their worst record in over a decade. Ever since firing NBA Championship-winning head coach Mike Budenholzer, the Bucks have struggled with consistency and leadership, both on the sidelines and in the locker room.
After firing Budenholzer, Milwaukee hired Adrian Griffin, who had no experience as a head coach. Despite leading the Bucks to a 30-13 record, Griffin was fired mid-way through his first and only season. Joe Prunty coached a few games in the interim, but eventually Milwaukee signed Rivers to a four-year contract.
He went 98-103 during his time with the Bucks.
