Mitchell Robinson Gets $50K Fine Despite Daniels’ Questionable Contact

‌Game 6 between the New York Knicks and the Atlanta Hawks was one for the ages, but for all the wrong reasons. The Hawks suffered a historic blowout loss, following early first-round ejections due to an on-court altercation.

On May 1, 2026, Hawks PG Dyson Daniels and Knicks’ big man Mitchell Robinson were involved in on-court altercations that broke out under five minutes before halftime. Both players were later ejected from the game. Now the league has announced a fresh set of fines for them. The fine was heavier for Robinson despite Daniels seemingly initiating the altercation.

According to the statement that NBA Communications released on X, the NBA slapped Robinson and Daniels with $50,000 and $25,000 fines, respectively. James Jones, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations, made the announcement.

Minutes before halftime, the Robinson-Daniels scuffle caused officials to rush onto the court. As OG Anunoby was shooting free throws, Mitchell and Daniels got entangled in their push for positions in case of a possible miss. Trying to separate them, a game official also fell to the ground.

The NBA X update confirmed Robinson’s fine was increased due to his postgame social media activity.

The amount of Robinson’s fine takes into account his inappropriate post on social media in reference to the incident postgame,” the statement read.

It is unclear which social media post the league was referring to. Although after the game, Robinson made a post on his social media.

“Knew something was (going to) happen,” Robinson wrote. “My mental just not the same. I’m just lost in the world at the moment”

Even after they were separated, Robinson and Daniels kept trying to push their way to each other, escalating the situation. Seconds later, officials ejected them from the game.

Dyson Daniels called out Mitchell Robinson after Game 6 ejections

The Hawks vs. Knicks was a pretty competitive series until Game 6. With a chance to force Game 7, Atlanta had a historic meltdown. In an elimination game, they lost by 51 points. But the Hawks were getting embarrassed from the first quarter, trailing by 40-15.

Following the on-court altercation, Daniels alleged that Robinson had been throwing elbows throughout the series.

“Over the series, there was a few elbows thrown … [Mitchell Robinson] kind of does this thing on free throws where he puts his elbows really high, and he got me with two or three of them throughout the series and on the free throws, so I gave him one back, and he didn’t like it, I didn’t like it, so it kind of just boiled over a little bit,”

The Knicks will now face the winner of the Celtics vs. 76ers series in the second round.
