NBA expert gets brutally honest about Philadelphia 76ers after Paul George’s latest injury, ‘Not a team…’

The Philadelphia 76ers have received another injury blow to Paul George before the start of the 2025-26 NBA season.

Last season, the Philadelphia 76ers were one of the worst teams in the league as they finished the campaign with a 24-58 record.

The biggest reason behind the terrible season was injuries to stars Joel Embiid and Paul George. After all, they played just 19 and 41 games, respectively.

While fans expect a better outcome next season, they are already on a similar path. How? Well, George has already suffered an injury that required arthroscopic surgery, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.

This will keep George out until the NBA Training Camp, which is expected to kick off in October 2025.

Tim MacMahon makes an NBA 2K reference over Philadelphia 76ers’ title hopes

With the likes of the Boston Celtics and the Indiana Pacers out of contention for the 2026 NBA Championship due to injury troubles, the Eastern Conference is wide open.

Evidently, every team is aspiring to an NBA Finals run in the conference, including the 76ers. However, the 76ers’ title hopes received a scathing reality check from NBA analyst Tim MacMahon.

“Look, if you want to turn the injuries off on 2k, then we can talk about the Sixers as a contender. What are we talking about here?” McMahon said on NBA Today.

He added: “The expectations there last summer are not there now because this is not a team that you can trust to put a healthy product on the court. What’s the best realistic case for Joel Embiid?”

Sure, the 76ers have selected a solid prospect in VJ Edgecombe with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. But the health of Embiid and George is more vital to their championship aspirations.

After all, a team can only go so far without its best players on the court for the majority of the regular season.

Lack of chemistry is another concern for the Philadelphia 76ers, says Tim MacMahon

Assuming a best-case scenario where Embiid and PG13 are healthy to start off the season, the 76ers should go all the way, right? At least that’s what Kendrick Perkins believes.

However, even with the duo healthy, MacMahon pointed out another concern about the entire roster.

“You’re going to load manage your way through the season with a group that has barely played together and then suddenly somehow microwave chemistry for a deep playoff run that Joel Embiid has never been able to lead. There are a whole lot of ifs here,” MacMahon boldly stated.

On paper, the 76ers’ roster may look phenomenal, but to reach their full potential, the players need to spend the entire summer training together.

After all, there are no shortcuts to bolstering chemistry. But with George already sidelined, building chemistry will be easier said than done for the 76ers.
