NBA Finals: Pacers Pummel Thunder To Force Game 7

It wasn’t even close. And perhaps that was a bit of a surprise. But whether it caught you off guard or not, here’s the reality of the situation: Game 7.

That is what we have after the Indiana Pacers dismantled the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 6 on Thursday night. Final score: Pacers 108, Thunder 91, and you could argue it wasn’t even that close.

The final and deciding game is Sunday night in Oklahoma City. The Thunder will either win their first title since moving to OKC from Seattle in 2007, or the Pacers will win their first NBA title — ever.

“We just wanted to protect homecourt, total team effort,” Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton told ESPN. “It’s the Finals. All of us have to give everything we have.”

Haliburton was a game-time decision with a strained right calf, but looked about as good as ever, finishing with 14 points and five assists. He even had a steal that resulted in a fastbreak, that ended when Haliburton threw a nifty no-look pass to a streaking Pascal Siakam — who threw down the dunk of the postseason.

Indiana trailed 10-2, then went on a run to take the lead, then seemed to put it away by halftime. The Thunder, meanwhile, looked like a shell of itself.

Obi Toppin came off the bench to lead a balanced Indiana output with 20 points. Andrew Nembhard added 17, Siakam scored 16, and T.J. McConnell added 12 points, nine rebounds and six assists. This despite the fact McConnell is often the oldest and shortest guy on the court.

But that’s just been the Pacer Way. As soon as you think they’re done, they pull themselves back in. And by any measure necessary.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 21 points and Jalen Williams had 16. But those were just numbers. Bottom line is OKC will have to get back to who it’s always been on its home court. The Pacers made sure of that.
