The Celtics are getting back to the league-mandated roster minimum by converting two-way guard John Tonje to a 10-day contract, agents George Roussakis and Mark Bartelstein told Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Boston will also sign Dalano Banton to a separate 10-day deal, allowing the club to reach 14 players after operating at 12 since the trade deadline.
Tonje, the 53rd pick in the 2025 draft, was acquired at the deadline in part because of his cap-friendly profile. As a draft-rights rookie, he counts at the rookie minimum for tax and apron purposes, a key factor for a Celtics team navigating razor-thin margins below the luxury tax.
Boston is expected to return to a 12-man roster once the 10-day deals expire, then promote Max Shulga and add a veteran later in the season. Tonje has yet to make his NBA debut but has produced in the G League, including 50 points in his first two games with the Maine Celtics.
The 76ers have officially signed Tyrese Martin to a two-way contract, the team announced.
Martin began the season with the Nets and appeared in 97 games over the past two seasons before being waived to make room for a trade. He averaged 8.2 points in just over 20 minutes per game during that span.
He will fill Philadelphia’s open two-way slot alongside MarJon Beauchamp and Dalen Terry. If finalized by midweek, Martin will be eligible for up to 16 games the rest of the season.
The Hawks have officially converted Caleb Houstan from a two-way deal to a standard, rest-of-season contract.
To open the roster spot, Atlanta waived Nikola Djurisic, a 2024 second-round pick who had yet to make his NBA debut. Only the first year of Djurisic’s contract was guaranteed, so the Hawks will not carry future dead money.
Houstan has played sparingly at the NBA level this season but has been productive in the G League, averaging 15.9 points while shooting better than 37 percent from three. Atlanta appears set to give him a longer look over the final two months.
