Bucks

Tyler Herro has no regrets about heading home.

Speaking with Eric Nehm of The Athletic, the former Heat guard said he’s thrilled to begin the next chapter of his career with the Bucks after being dealt to Milwaukee in the blockbuster trade that sent Giannis Antetokounmpo to Miami.

“If I literally had to pick another team in the league to play for, it would be Milwaukee,” Herro said. “I’m super excited to be in Milwaukee.”

The Wisconsin native called it a “fresh start” for both himself and the organization. Herro acknowledged there was speculation that he could be moved again before his contract expires, but he doesn’t sound worried about that.

“I think now that things are kind of settling down, I’m hoping I’m staying here,” he said. “I’m excited to just be here.”

Herro also expressed confidence in Milwaukee’s roster, saying the Bucks have the right blend of proven veterans and hungry young players to surprise people this season.

Hawks

CJ McCollum never seriously considered testing free agency.

After signing a one-year, $21 million extension before free agency opened, the veteran guard told Michael Scotto of HoopsHype that staying in Atlanta was an easy decision.

“I never made it to free agency,” McCollum said. “It’s a great situation for both parties.”

McCollum praised just about everyone in the organization, from president of basketball operations Onsi Saleh and coach Quin Snyder to ownership and his teammates.

The Hawks reached the playoffs last season but were unable to make a deep run. McCollum believes there’s still plenty to build on.

“We had good momentum,” he said. “There’s a lot of good basketball left for everybody.”

Rockets

The Rockets have officially added another young wing to the mix.

Houston announced the signing of free agent Julian Phillips, though the team did not disclose contract terms. It is widely expected to be a non-guaranteed deal.

Still just 22, Phillips has shown flashes of athleticism during stops with the Bulls and Timberwolves but has yet to establish himself as a regular rotation player.

The move continues a busy week for Houston, which has also re-signed Jae’Sean Tate and Isaiah Crawford while adding Oscar Tshiebwe.

Phillips now figures to compete for one of the final roster spots entering training camp, with Houston expected to have several players battling for what could be the team’s last standard contract.
