NBA Notes: Carmelo Anthony, Hall of Fame, JaVale McGee, Frank Ntilikina

Carmelo Anthony will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame this weekend, and his college coach thinks NBA history has sold him short. Jim Boeheim told Mark Medina of Sportskeeda that Anthony never got enough credit for consistently winning.

“The thing I think about the NBA is that he made every team that he was on better than they were,” Boeheim said. “Whether it was Denver or the Knicks, he made them better. They had to go up against the Lakers and the Spurs in Denver.

“They couldn’t do it, but he made the team better. That’s all you can do sometimes as players.”

Anthony is joining the NBC broadcast team as a studio analyst for the upcoming season.

McGee down under: JaVale McGee is gearing up for his first season in Australia with the Illawarra Hawks. His coach, Justin Tatum, said the 36-year-old center is being counted on to control the paint.

“There’s no illegal defense here, so he’s gonna clog the lane, he’s gonna sit up there and make difficult shots for everybody else,” Tatum told ESPN’s Olgun Uluc. “On the offensive end, we can just put the ball up anywhere and hopefully he can just catch a lob or be on the back-side.”

Ntilikina extends with Partizan: Frank Ntilikina is staying in Serbia. The former NBA guard agreed to a new deal with Partizan Belgrade through 2027, per Sportando. The extension comes with a sizable pay cut, but Ntilikina turned down Monaco’s interest to stay where he is.

“I’m more ready than ever, you will see the best version of me,” Ntilikina said.

The 26-year-old averaged seven points and two assists in EuroLeague play last season, along with 6.7 points in the ABA League, while dealing with multiple injuries.
