NBA Notes: Victor Oladipo, Harry Giles, international news

Victor Oladipo isn’t done chasing his NBA dream just yet.

The two-time All-Star has been healthy and playing with the Guangzhou Loong Lions, a Chinese club currently touring the U.S. for preseason exhibitions.

According to HoopsHype’s Sam Yip, Oladipo plans to reassess his options when the trip wraps up later this month.

He’s looked sharp so far, scoring 20 points with five steals against the Spurs, then adding 24 points and five assists against the Clippers.

But as the 33-year-old told Yip, interest from NBA teams hasn’t turned into offers.

“People show interest, but again, with the new CBA, with contracts and stuff, people can only do so much,” Oladipo said. “So time will tell. When the opportunity presents itself, I’ll be ready for it.”

Oladipo also drew interest from European scouts during his summer workout in Las Vegas, though he made clear he’s still focused on the NBA.

“If push comes to shove and that’s the last option, we’ll see,” he said with a laugh. “I’m definitely one of the best. So that’s where I belong — the three letters: N-B-A.”

Back to China

Two former first-round picks are also heading overseas.

Harry Giles has signed with the Jiangsu Dragons, per Dario Skerletic of Sportando. The former Duke standout appeared in 165 NBA games with four teams and played last year for the Shanxi Loongs in China.

D.J. Wilson, who went three spots ahead of Giles in the 2017 draft, is joining the Jilin Northeast Tigers after spending last season with the Shanghai Sharks.

Elsewhere overseas

Former Nuggets and Spurs forward Joffrey Lauvergne has joined Kuwait SC, his agent Misko Raznatovic announced. The 6-11 French veteran has spent the last seven years playing in Turkey, Lithuania, and France. Kuwait SC is the defending champion of the country’s top league.
