Playoff basketball is underway in the NBA, and the few referees selected to officiate these games want everything to be in tiptop shape – including the highly controversial Scott Foster.
The veteran referee is known to be a bit short-tempered when he sees that he’s losing control of the game. He wants order, and he’s not afraid to toss out star players when things get a bit rowdy for his liking. Apparently, his temperament isn’t just reserved for players. During the first game of the Celtics-Sixers series, Scott Foster showed his displeasure with a certain microphone operator.
“Do your job,” Foster said.

He was in the middle of a play review when the microphone went out. He even slapped the scorer’s table due to frustration. While his actions were a bit excessive, that’s the pressure of officiating playoff basketball games. The referees want everything to work because it makes their job a bit easier.
And for a call to be reviewed that early, Scott Foster just wants to set a tone for the rest of the game. For him, a distraction like that is a huge no-no.
Maybe the veteran official has a thing for Philly because he’s been on their heels this season alone. During a game in February, Scott Foster was involved in a back-and-forth with Sixers player Kelly Oubre. After Foster handed a technical foul to Oubre, the latter called the controversial referee a “horrible ref.”
Fans have given Foster the moniker ‘The Extender’, alleging that he has the power to extend any playoff series that he officiates. He’s also well-known for his feud with former Clippers star Chris Paul, especially in the postseason.
Scott Foster’s reputation has been questioned before due to his ties with the disgraced Tim Donaghy, a former referee who bet on games.
