The NBA is still trying to figure out when and if they can resume their season and according to Brian Windhorst, the league could have a schedule set by early June. The NBA insider appeared on ESPN's "Get Up" Tuesday morning and spoke about where the NBA is at in terms of planning a return.
With states like Florida, California and Texas potentially exploring reopening sports, the NBA could begin establishing plans to play the remainder of the season in a single location, like Orlando or Los Angeles.
"I think what they're doing is waiting to see what happens in certain states and if we're going to be able to play," Windhorst said. "Making sure the virus continues to go in the right direction in the next few weeks. And I think that if things are going in the way that it's going, I think the NBA, the commissioner Adam Silver, who has done an unbelievable job through this, and the 30 owners will make the decision to try to start the season up again."
And whether or not the season is resumed, a decision is expected to be made in the next month or so.
"The working order in the league ... is that by early-to-mid June they will have a decision. We are either gonna go or we're not and if we are gonna go, here is what a schedule might look like."
While the NBA has made no clear decision at this point, Windhorst did indicate that the league is feeling positive about having the opportunity to resume its season.
"I would say right now we are moving positively in that direction but the NBA, again, keeping a close eye on those numbers from Nate Silver every single day just like the rest of us."
A lot remains unclear in terms of the logistics of resuming the season, including if the NBA will try to play out the rest of the season or just jump straight into the playoffs.
