It has been a rough last two seasons for the Brooklyn Nets as they have failed to win more than 32 games in each of those two years during their rebuild and they will now look to improve as they enter the 2025-26 campaign.
Of course, the Nets enter the new season with their core of Cam Thomas and Nic Claxton leading the way, though they also made several additions to their roster this offseason.
It started in the 2025 draft where the Nets selected Egor Demin, Nolan Traore, Drake Powell, Ben Saraf and Danny Wolf all in the first round.
They then sent Cameron Johnson to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for Michael Porter Jr. while also adding Terance Mann, Kobe Bufkin and Haywood Highsmith via trades.
With these moves, the Nets are looking to take a step in the right direction this season as they continue their rebuild.
While Brooklyn looks to improve this season, the main storyline for them throughout the offseason was the saga between them and Thomas as the Nets were unwilling to meet his contract demands and that may continue into the new season.
Of course, Thomas was a restricted free agent who eventually signed his $6 million qualifying offer after declining a two-year, $30 million deal and a one-year, $9.5 million deal from the Nets.
On Tuesday, Nets general manager Sean Marks delivered an honest take on the young guard and commented on his future with the franchise.
“He’s approached this in a very mature manner. It’s part of the business, maybe the ugly part of the business... He’s a Net. He knows that... Just because a common ground couldn’t be met this summer doesn’t mean he’s not a Net in the future,” Marks said about Thomas.

Marks was intrigued by how Thomas handled his situation this offseason and he also opened the door to the young guard still being part of Brooklyn’s future.
Despite this, the 23-year-old guard is set to be an unrestricted free agent next offseason and with the Nets unwilling to meet his contract demands this summer, that may be the case once again next offseason.
If that is the case, it is likely that Thomas will move on from Brooklyn where he has been a key contributor over his four seasons in the NBA, especially on the offensive end as he averaged 24.0 points per game last season.
Either way, Marks kept the door open about Thomas continuing to be with the Nets after this season but if Brooklyn is unwilling to pay him what he wants, this may be the young guard’s final season in Brooklyn.
