Nets To Sign Grant Nelson To Two-Way Contract

A seven-footer out of Alabama, Nelson went undrafted in 2025 and spent most of last season with the Long Island Nets, Brooklyn’s G League affiliate. In 23 NBAGL appearances, he averaged 11.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 19.3 minutes per game, making 54.9% of his shots from the floor and 80.9% of his free throws.

Nelson’s solid play at the G League level earned him a call-up to the NBA on a 10-day contract near the end of February. He appeared in four games for the Nets during those 10 days, contributing 17 points, six rebounds, and five assists in 35 total minutes.

Brooklyn opted not to re-sign Nelson to a second 10-day deal as he dealt with patellar tendinitis (jumper’s knee), which sidelined him for the last month of the season. However, the team liked what it saw enough to bring him back on a two-way contract ahead of the 2026 preseason.

No corresponding roster move will be necessary for the Nets to officially bring Nelson aboard. The team is currently carrying just 17 players, four below its 21-man offseason limit, and only two of those players – Chaney Johnson and Tyler Bilodeau – are on two-way contracts, leaving an open slot for Nelson.

A two-way deal will make Nelson eligible to appear in up to 50 games for Brooklyn during the regular season. If he remains under contract through the league-wide guarantee date in January, he’d earn $678,882 over the course of the season.
