One of the Boston Celtics’ newest signings has quickly earned the admiration of head coach Joe Mazzulla.
The Boston Celtics will focus on the development of young talent next season, as Jayson Tatum’s Achilles injury rules out any hope of title contention.
After gutting their roster to cut down on salaries, the Celtics have a young squad led by Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and other stalwarts from their 2024 NBA championship side.
The Celtics know there’s not much they can do in the Eastern Conference next season. While the Celtics will likely make the playoffs, anything beyond a second-round exit would be a massive overdelivery.
With a new cast of characters now in Bean Town, the Celtics fanbase will have to pick some new favorites. It appears head coach Joe Mazzulla has already found one.
New Boston Celtics signing Josh Minott spoke to reporters after their preseason win over the Memphis Grizzlies. During the game, Josh Minott blocked shots from opposing players after the whistle had gone.
This earned Minott several pats on the back from head coach Joe Mazzulla, who loved the young star playing mind games on the opposing team.
“I’m not going for that s—… We’re not going for none of that. Oh, for a fact. You can’t let the opponent see the ball at all. That’s just mind games.”
Minott’s attempt to demoralize opposing players may not have registered on the stat sheet, as it was after the whistle had gone, but it did earn the head coach’s respect.
If this is the energy he brings to the Celtics, he will quickly find himself to be a key part of Mazzulla’s rotation next season.
Josh Minott blocked multiple shots after the whistle blew in today’s game, and Joe Mazzulla came up to him pleased afterwards.

This new-look Boston Celtics squad presents both opportunities and challenges. The Celtics will have to find a way to keep winning games despite the lack of championship talent on their books.
However, with reduced expectations, the Celtics can give more time to their young stars next season and hope that they take a leap.
Payton Pritchard will be the Celtics’ starting point guard, getting the opportunity he has wanted for so long.
If he, along with other Celtics youngsters, makes the most of the opportunity in front of them, the Celtics could be a formidable side heading into the 2026-27 NBA season, after Jayson Tatum returns.
