Nikola Vucevic has long been linked to the Golden State Warriors in NBA trade rumors and speculation, and he recently outlined what the Chicago Bulls have told him about those reports.

Since before the 2025 NBA trade deadline, Nikola Vucevic has been a fixture of NBA trade speculation, namely linked to the Golden State Warriors.

As an offense-minded center, he brings high-level talent and is in the last season of his contract, although his defensive limitations have long hurt his trade value. Still, it is expected that he will be dealt or bought out before the 2026 deadline, and he recently revealed where he stands with those rumors.

Nikola Vucevic outlines conversation with Marc Eversley

After trading away DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine, the Chicago Bulls seemed committed to a rebuild, and Vucevic is the last high-profile veteran on the roster. He doesn’t fit their competitive timeline and will likely not be re-signed by the team this summer, although he is an excellent starter provided the right lineup is built around him, which the Bulls have largely failed to do.

As trade rumors heat up, he insists that there is very little truth to those reports.

“The Bulls GM (Marc Eversley), who contacted me after all the rumors about me, confirmed that none of it was true and that everything we said after the season was still relevant,” he told BasketUSA. “I knew that, but it’s always nice when your GM contacts you to tell you.”

The Warriors, according to several reports, have had varying interest in both Vucevic and his teammate, Josh Giddey. However, a deal is yet to materialize, and it seems more and more likely that he will end the season as a Bull, which is what he’s wanted all along.

Nikola Vucevic wants to remain and win in Chicago

Playing for Montenegro in international contests and the early 2010s 76ers and Magic, as well as the Bulls, hasn’t really allowed Vucevic to play winning basketball. However, he paints a clear picture: he wants to remain in Chicago and see it through.

Between Giddey and second-year forward Matas Buzelis, the Bulls are slowly building a young core, and Vucevic believes it’s only a matter of time before they take the next step.

“Matas, he’s a great talent,” praised the veteran. I think he’ll have a great career in the league. He’s young, but he’s already shown he belongs in the NBA.”

While the Bulls are still a year (or more) from competing for a meaningful postseason run, Vucevic thinks there’s a chance he will still be in town to see the team win.

“Maybe not this season, because we’ll be a young team,” he admitted. “But you never know, teams’ ambitions change quickly from year to year, depending on injuries and transfers.”

With only a season left on his contract, the Bulls will have to see Vucevic as a very real piece moving forward, and he must quell rumors surrounding a buyout, lest he end his career elsewhere.
