The Denver Nuggets have gotten off to a strong start in the 2025–26 season, entering Wednesday’s game against the Indiana Pacers with a 14–6 record. A huge reason for their success has been the play of point guard Jamal Murray, now in his ninth year with the organization.
The 28-year-old has posted 23.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 1.1 steals while shooting 48.3% from the field, 41.5% from beyond the arc and 89.5% from the free-throw line across his first 19 appearances.
Murray’s ability to create his own shot and thrive in clutch moments makes him one of the league’s most reliable guards.
His perimeter shooting stretches defenses, opening the floor for Nikola Jokic to operate inside, while his playmaking instincts allow him to feed the three-time NBA MVP in the post or on pick-and-roll actions.
The Nuggets fell to the Dallas Mavericks on Monday, losing by a final score of 131–121. One of the biggest storylines, however, was Murray’s availability. He headed to the locker room during the second half limping with an apparent injury.
Moments later, the team announced he had suffered a right ankle sprain. He returned to the game attempting to play through it, but the discomfort proved too much to overcome as he did not appear in the fourth quarter. Murray finished with 10 points, nine assists and four rebounds in 26 minutes of action.
With his status uncertain moving forward, the Nuggets announced their injury report for Wednesday’s matchup with Indiana. Murray was listed as questionable with a right ankle sprain.
Against a weaker Eastern Conference opponent like the Pacers, Denver still has a good chance to win without him, and the team will likely be cautious to avoid any risk of aggravation, especially given how central he is to their championship aspirations.
Murray’s career has been exceptional since Denver selected him seventh overall in the 2016 NBA Draft. While he has not collected many individual accolades, he played a pivotal role in the Nuggets’ 2023 NBA Finals run.
In September 2024, Murray signed a four-year, $208 million maximum contract extension with Denver, keeping him with the team through the 2028–29 season. His status will continue to be closely monitored, with any future updates playing a critical role in shaping Denver’s path through the season.
