OKC Thunder Make NBA Playoff History in Game 3 vs. Grizzlies

The Oklahoma City Thunder entered Thursday’s Game 3 matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies looking to take a commanding 3-0 series lead.

It did not look as though it would happen for the Thunder early on as they were outscored 40-29 in the first quarter and then 37-22 in the second quarter, trailing by 26 points at halftime.

Things changed in the second half though, especially for the Grizzlies after their superstar point guard Ja Morant left the game after suffering a hip injury on a hard fall.

In the second half, Oklahoma City dominated, outscoring Memphis 63-31 to grab a 114-108 victory.

This was an epic collapse by the Grizzlies and one they could not afford to have happen in a must-win game for them.

For the Thunder, they now take a 3-0 series lead and have a chance to pull off the series sweep in Game 4 on Saturday.

With Thursday’s comeback win for the Thunder, they made NBA playoff history twice.

Oklahoma City’s 29-point comeback is the second largest comeback in NBA playoff history while they also overcame a 26-point deficit at halftime, which is the largest halftime deficit any team has come back from in NBA playoff history.

It was truly a historic comeback for the Thunder and one that was led by their core of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams.

Shai led the way for Oklahoma City as he ended the game with 31 points, four rebounds and eight assists.

For Holmgren, he recorded 24 points and eight rebounds while Williams added 26 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals of his own.

Of course, the wheels fell off for the Grizzlies in the second half after Morant’s hip injury as the rest of their roster never got going in the second half.

Because of this, the Thunder now take a 3-0 lead and they will look to complete the series sweep on Saturday in Game 4 to advance to the second round.
