There is no better indicator of a person’s character than how others talk about them. At their worst, at their best — true colors always come to light.

When Jalen Williams suffered a fractured fibula and a dislocated left ankle in his third game of the season, players and fans were devastated for him.

He missed 49 games last season, excluding the postseason, where he was sidelined for all but five games of the Thunder’s run to the Western Conference Finals.

Williams had battled injury after injury. This season, it finally looked like he had turned a corner. That is, until the Clippers game.

Williams, also known as J-Dub, has been a fan favorite since he stepped foot in Oklahoma City. The city is now reciprocating the love and support he poured into it over the years.

J-Dub Built Something in OKC That Goes Beyond Basketball

J-Dub and his family launched the WTTP (With the Twelfth Pick) Foundation, aimed at offering shelter and community to those in need. The family put on the first Williams Brothers Sunday Dinner in OKC this year, providing dinners for families from the City Rescue Mission.

The 25-year-old has also partnered with Goodwill Central Oklahoma to donate shoes and other clothing items for sale. The profits from the merchandise, including personally signed items, were put back into the community. All proceeds went towards skill development, employment services, and job training for Oklahoma individuals.

The outpouring of love for Williams intensified immediately after his gruesome injuries against the Clippers. OKC has rallied behind J-Dub and teammate Cason Wallace, who suffered a torn labrum in the same game.

K Club, a nonprofit organization that supports children fighting cancer, gathered in the aftermath of their injuries to collect cards for the Oklahoma City players. The Thunder has supported the K Club in the past, and the injuries gave K Club a chance to show how much the Thunder mean to them.

“We want to collect 1000 cards for J Dub so that anytime he’s discouraged, he can open a card from a fan who is wishing him well,” the official K Club account posted on Facebook.

Community support continued with the Devon Tower in OKC displaying a number eight on the building, honoring Williams’ jersey number.

Williams’ Teammates Know Exactly Who He Is

Williams’ strong character is nothing new for his teammates.

“He has great parents. He comes from a great family of hard work, love, and putting your best foot forward at all times,” Thunder guard Alex Caruso said. “The couple of years I’ve been here, getting to know his mom and dad, they raised their children right. Those characteristics and qualities are instilled in him as a person.”

The Thunder believe Williams will make a full recovery as he is expected to be reevaluated towards the end of the season. The long journey he has ahead is just another test for one of OKC’s most resilient players.

J-Dub previously played through a torn ligament in his wrist during the Thunder’s 2025 title run. He chose to withhold surgery until the end of the season, helping the Thunder to their first championship.

His teammates know how much they need him to have a chance at capturing another title. Until he returns, they will continue to have his back.

In the first game since J-Dub’s injury, Isaiah Hartenstein arrived at the arena wearing Williams’ jersey. The heartwarming gesture caught the attention of his other injured teammate, Wallace, in a playful way.

“Cason texted me when he saw the picture and was like, ‘Oh, so you’re not wearing my jersey?’ And I was like, ‘I already had a Dub jersey.’ So I might have to find a Cason jersey so he doesn’t get his feelings hurt,” laughed Hartenstein.

Watching Williams go down clearly shook Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The otherwise calm, cool, and collected MVP prides himself on his consistent nature. But his close bond with J-Dub left no room for anything other than a tearful reaction once Williams went down.

Even Rivals Stopped to Send Their Support

Opponents around the league shared their thoughts and prayers for Williams. Among the group to wish him well were two players with a shared history against the Thunder.

Devin Vassell’s Spurs eliminated Oklahoma City in a thrilling Game 7 during the 2026 Western Conference Finals. The two teams jawed back and forth throughout the hard-fought series, but off the court, Vassell has love for J-Dub.

“Prayers up to Jalen Williams and his family,” said Vassell. “I mean, not being able to play as much as he wanted to last year, and then that happening — he’s a hell of a competitor, great person.”

The list of rivals who expressed their support for J-Dub continued with their former NBA Finals foe.

Tyrese Haliburton knows about devastating injuries all too well having torn his Achilles in the 2025 Finals against Williams’ Thunder. Following Williams’ injury, the Pacers star tweeted “JDub” along with three prayer emojis, showing that rivalries stop at the court.

The surplus of affection Williams has received is a testament to him as an individual — basketball aside.

The OKC community will continue supporting J-Dub and spreading love, just as he has always done for them.
