Oklahoma City Thunder Point Guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had a great game on Sunday afternoon at home against the Denver Nuggets. In a matchup between the two contenders for MVP, SGA thoroughly outplayed Nikola Jokic. Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 40 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. It was his third consecutive game with 40+ points and 5+ assists. That tied him for the most in franchise history.
The Thunder held a three-point lead at the end of three quarters, but they pulled away late. Oklahoma City outscored Denver 41-20 in the game’s final frame. Gilgeous-Alexander was the driving force behind that with 11 fourth-quarter points. Gilgeous-Alexander has been great this regular season. He leads the league in points per game and is 14th in assists. Can SGA punctuate his MVP campaign with a strong finish to the regular season?

Oklahoma City has put together a great regular season. They hold the second-best record in the NBA. The Thunder offense, led by Gilgeous-Alexander, has had one of the league’s best offenses. They are fourth in points scored, ninth in field goal percentage, and 10th in three-point percentage.
Oklahoma City’s defense has also been strong this season. They are second in points allowed, leading the league in field goal percentage, and leading the league in three-point percentage. A great offense and defense has the Oklahoma City Thunder in a great position heading down the homestretch of the regular season.
Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder return to the court tomorrow night for their second consecutive game against the Denver Nuggets. This will be another opportunity for Gilgeous-Alexander to outplay Jokic in a marquee contest. Even though SGA leads the MVP race now, much can change in the next six weeks.
