Oklahoma City Thunder Re-Sign 2 Quality Rotation Pieces To Free Agent Deals
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The Oklahoma City Thunder have completed their rebuild. They are now a championship contender led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and a slew of young talent. However, the team came up short this past year and is in the process of rebuilding their roster. They have already been busy this offseason, trading away Josh Giddey and signing former Knicks center Isaiah Hartenstein. OKC locked up two key members of their bench last year, Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins.

Oklahoma City Thunder Sign Isaiah Joe And Aaron Wiggins

The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that Aaron Wiggins signed a five-year, $47 million contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He also reported the Isaiah Joe deal which is a four-year, $48 million contract. This isn’t a surprise, as the team declined options on both of them, and the reports were that both players were expected to return.

Wiggins averaged 6.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in just over 15 minutes for the team. His 49.2% shooting percentage from three-point range is one of the big reasons the team was hoping to keep him. Joe had similar numbers, averaging 8.8 points per game and shooting 41.2% from three-point range. Bench pieces are important for any championship team. Having shooters who can get hot can make the difference in a series.

Love The Offseason Moves

The Thunder have made some stellar moves this offseason. They began by offloading Josh Giddey, who had fallen out of favor with the coaching staff. The Thunder got Alex Caruso, who is one of the best defensive guards in the league. Earlier today, they helped their size problem by signing center Isaiah Hartenstein to a three-year deal. GM Sam Presti has done a great job of filling in the gaps on the roster in order to make another run this season.

The Oklahoma City Thunder might not be done. Because of the war chest of draft picks the team has, the team is never out of any player sweepstakes. If a superstar gets unhappy, the Thunder could give up a king’s ransom in order to acquire the player. This team is going all-in but in a different way than many teams.
