‘Out the Vault!’ LeBron James Reacts to Stephen Curry’s Rare Throwback Look

An unexpected choice of footwear completely stole the show at the Chase Center in San Francisco on April 9. It was a simple act of respect from Stephen Curry to LeBron James that caught everyone’s eye.

Curry was seen sporting a rare Nike LeBron X from 2013. It was a player-exclusive ID design styled in the Warriors’ classic colors. Since Curry was resting, he did not wear them during the actual game. An X update from the NBA displayed that James’ immediate reaction was a surprised and loud one.

‘LBJ’ said, “Out [of] the vault!” as he looked at Curry’s feet. He appreciated the gesture from his longtime competitor. The Lakers also lauded Curry during his post-match interview, saying, “You got one of the all-time greats ever to rock my kicks. That was super cool.”

This was the second time that same day Curry decided to show love to his rival. Earlier, Curry was photographed in Cleveland wearing the original Nike LeBron 1. James mentioned he had seen that picture before the Lakers game started.

After the game, LeBron noted that Nike likely made that specific Warriors-themed colorway for Curry back in 2013. That was right before Curry left the brand to join Under Armour.

This simple pregame moment reveals a shift in how these two legends view each other now.

Stephen Curry and LeBron James’ Journey From Rivals to Mutual Respect

LeBron and Curry ruled basketball for more than a decade. They were up against each other in 4 back to back NBA Finals from 2015 to 2018. Back then, the competition was intense on both sides. Now, in the later stages of their careers, that rivalry has turned into a mutual respect.

Curry’s choice of sneakers is tied to his recent move into sneaker free agency. In November 2025, Curry and Under Armour parted ways after a long 12-year run together. Slipping on the LeBron 10 was just one part of his new sneaker rotation. Such moments remind us that apart from the rivalry and records, there is also brotherhood in the game.

Throughout this season, Curry has worn signature shoes from several other basketball stars. He has laced up Sabrina Ionescu’s Nike Sabrina 3 and Jimmy Butler’s Li-Ning sneakers. He has also worn Kobe Protros, A’ja Wilson’s Nike A’One, and Roger Federer’s On tennis shoes.

So, which other sneaker do you think Curry will lace up next?
