Game 3 did not feature the result the Oklahoma City Thunder wanted. One of the biggest reasons for that was a spectacular performance off the Indiana Pacers' bench by Bennedict Mathurin.

The Pacers secured a 2-1 lead in the 2025 NBA Finals behind a competitive 116-107 win over the Thunder at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Thunder pulled ahead early following a 32-24 first quarter. However, the Pacers stormed back.

The decisive part of this game was the fourth quarter for Indiana. The Pacers outscored the Thunder 32-18 in the final frame to maintain the homecourt advantage they stole in Oklahoma City.

Mathurin had a large part to play in this victory for Indiana. The Pacers wing led all scorers in Game 3 with 27 points. That helped him set some NBA history in the process.

According to Sportsnet Stats, Mathurin set the new mark for most points off the bench by a Canadian in an NBA Finals game. The Pacers youngster eclipsed the previous mark held by Kelly Olynyk, who had 24 points in Game 2 of the 2020 NBA Finals.

Mathurin shot an efficient 9-of-12 from the field in the victory. That included 2-of-3 from the 3-point line. The Canadian wing also connected on 7-of-8 free throw attempts in this game.

After only dropping 5 points in Game 1 of the series, Mathurin has now registered double-digit scoring outings in back-to-back games for the Pacers. The bench spark plug scored 14 in Game 2, leading up to this 27-point performance in Game 3.

Mathurin is playing in his first playoff run with the Pacers after missing last year's trip to the Eastern Conference Finals due to injury. The Thunder would be wise to not let the young scorer pick up momentum as this series progresses.
