The Indiana Pacers made history in Game 1 against the New York Knicks. Indiana became the first team since 1998 to win a playoff game after trailing by nine or more points in the final minute of the fourth quarter or overtime.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the overall record for playoff teams in this situation was 0-1,414. Thanks to the Pacers, that record now stands at 1-1,414.
The Pacers fell behind by 17 in the fourth quarter. With 3:44 remaining, Indiana faced a 14-point deficit. As the clock hit 52.4 seconds, they trailed 121-112.
The Pacers battled back and were led by Tyrese Haliburton’s miracle shot that sent the game into overtime.
In overtime, the Pacers outlasted the Knicks, outscoring them 13-10. Haliburton led the Pacers with 31 points and 11 assists, but his biggest moment was his clutch shot that saw the tide change as the Pacers made history in Game 1.
For the Knicks, Jalen Brunson had a great game, scoring 43 points. But it wasn’t enough to stop this Pacers team.
The Pacers have become sort of a thorn in Brunson and his Knicks’ side as of late. Last season the Knicks held the homecourt advantage in their Semifinals matchup, only to lose Game 7 in New York.
If the Knicks want to win this series, they have to protect their homecourt and steal a game in Indiana. That might be easier said than done with how the Pacers have been playing.
