It was another disappointing season for the Miami Heat as they once again failed to make it out of the first round of the playoffs.
Of course, the Heat’s struggles began early in the season when their superstar player Jimmy Butler demanded a trade, which led them to trading him to the Golden State Warriors at the trade deadline.
With Butler gone, the Heat struggled to find their rhythm for the remainder of the season before surprisingly making it out of the Play-In to face the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round, where they were eventually swept.
Because of their struggles, the Heat could be making some changes in the offseason and their president of basketball operations, Pat Riley, recently hinted at them making changes this summer, which could include them pulling off a blockbuster trade.
“For us, if it’s the right name and the contract is the right length, yeah, I still think an aging player can play,” Riley said.
Pat Riley said today the Heat are open to the idea of pursuing an older star player:

These are interesting comments by Riley as the Heat have been reported to have interest in acquiring Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns in the offseason.
Of course, the Heat were in on Durant at the trade deadline, but Phoenix elected to keep him around.
With their abysmal season, though, the Suns are now expected to trade Durant to rebuild their roster around Devin Booker and Miami has emerged as a favorite to land the star forward.
Because of the reports, Riley’s comments have further fueled the speculation of the Heat going after Durant in the offseason, especially since Durant fits the subject of Riley’s comments.
The 36-year-old forward has just one year left on his contract and there is no doubt that Durant is still one of the best players in the NBA despite being near the end of his career.
Due to this, he may be the perfect player Riley and Heat need to return to being a championship contender next season.
