Paul George addresses idea of retiring with Clippers as extension looms

While Paul George’s 13-year NBA career has been spent with three different teams, and 11 of those years with the Indiana Pacers and Los Angeles Clippers, it appears he still feels right at home with the team he’s spent the past four seasons with.

George, 33, is heading into the 2023-24 season with a potential contract extension on the horizon, as he has a player option in 2024-25 and is slated to make north of $48.7M if he opts into that.

But during Clippers’ media day on Wednesday, George was asked if the Clippers are still the team he wants to stick with for the remainder of his career, and he gave a candid answer on the topic, as Clutch Points’ Tomer Azarly revealed.

“Yeah, absolutely. If it’s up to me, absolutely. I’m back home with a great organization. An organization that believes in winning and does everything it can to win ... It’d be a dream,” George told Azarly.

Here’s a look at his full comments on the topic:

George has put together a great four-year stretch with the Clippers thus far, even while battling some injuries on-and-off. Over 189 games played with the organization, he’s averaged 23.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists. George has also posted a career-best stretch with one team in relation to his overall shooting, posting a mark of 44.9% from the field.

He’s also just shy of a career-best three-point shooting percentage, knocking down 39% of his attempts over that 189 game span.

If George and teammate Kawhi Leonard can remain healthy this coming season, it’ll be interesting to see how they finish in a talented Western Conference. Even with George only suiting up for 56 games last season, the Clippers still finished fifth in the Western Conference, tied for the same record with the Golden State Warriors.

For good measure, they were also only four games back of the third-place team in the West, the Sacramento Kings.
