Paul Pierce pointed to the best version of LeBron James that had him worried every time they shared the court.

It becomes easy to forget, given how he is still playing at a superstar level, but LeBron James has been in the NBA for over 20 years.

Since starting his career in 2003 with the Cleveland Cavaliers, James has been a star fixture in the NBA. LeBron has found success with every team he has been on, including the Miami Heat and the LA Lakers.

Now, as James nears the end of his legendary career, fans are growing nostalgic for various eras of his past.

But which version of LeBron James is the most dominant? Well, the most common answer is the one Paul Pierce recently gave during an interview.

Paul Pierce says LeBron James was at his best with the Miami Heat

Paul Pierce spoke in an interview with NFL legend Julian Edelman recently. When discussing his rivalry with LeBron James, Pierce looked back on their days battling it out in the East.

For Pierce, the most dangerous version of LeBron James was when he was on the Miami Heat. The tutelage he received from Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra made him unstoppable.

But even Pierce had to acknowledge that what James is doing with the Lakers right now is unbelievable.

“I couldn’t believe how he looked, like he was a faster, stronger player at the time. He got under the Spoelstra umbrella, which is like Pat Riley; they don’t mess around, and they can’t.

“You’ve got to be in major shape. You’ve got to hit certain goals. It was like, probably the strictest, most disciplined team in the NBA at the time.

“He got under that, so it looked like he got even better. I think that’s peak LeBron for me. Heat LeBron. It’s crazy… He’s still averaging 25 at 40 years old.”

The King is nearing the end of his career in the NBA

As much as we have all marvelled at LeBron James’ incredible longevity, it is becoming more apparent with every passing season that he is near the end of his career.

So much so that LeBron is even making moves for his post-playing career. James knows that he has very little time left as a player.

There is speculation that James might retire as soon as the end of this coming season. But there is no confirmation of that.

However, whatever he decides, it appears this will be James’ final season with the LA Lakers, as the franchise looks to build its future around Luka Doncic.
