Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Dončić is skinny and in shape and that spells trouble for the rest of the NBA.
“People should be very terrified,” an anonymous NBA coach told Steve Bulpett of Heavy Sports about Dončić being in shape. “I know I am. He was putting up big numbers (28.6 ppg/career) when he was a chunk. I don’t know if he’ll score more, but he’s got to be a better player when he’s in shape. If he was one of the best players in the league as a blob, you have to figure he’s going to be able to push it even more now.
“If nothing else, his stamina’s going to be a lot better, and that’s really important as the season goes along and you get into the playoffs. I think there’s a much better chance he doesn’t break down and go through some of the injuries he’s had in the past. But I would be terrified. That guy in shape? That’s scary. I saw those pictures. That’s scary. Luka not in shape was amazing. Now? I think it’s going to be frightening for the rest of the league.”
Dončić lost weight this summer by going on a gluten-free, low-sugar diet, according to Men’s Health. The 26-year-old point-forward has also done intermittent fasting.
A future Hall of Famer, Dončić has career averages of 28.6 points, 8.6 rebounds and 8.2 assists with the Dallas Mavericks and Lakers. He enters next season third in NBA history in points per game.
Not bad for a guy Dallas called “fat” and “lazy” behind the scenes.
The Lakers, who are expected to sign Dončić to an extension this weekend, have to be overjoyed about Dončić’s body transformation. The 2019 Rookie of the Year averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 7.7 assists last season in 50 games with Dallas and Los Angeles when he was “out of shape.”
Just imagine the numbers Dončić will put up next season for the Lakers now that he’s “in shape.”
