Dallas Mavericks star PJ Washington entered the news cycle again. This time, Washington, 27, made headlines for his high-profile battle with his ex-girlfriend, “Basketball Wives” alum Brittany Renner. His battle with Renner, 33, got ugly after his alleged texts with her leaked, and she’s reportedly using them as evidence in her plea for $35,000 a month in child support, reported by US Weekly.
Washington’s alleged texts leaked amid his battle with Renner. The presumption innocence of all individuals is innocent until proven guilty exists, but the texts may not work in his favor.
In one alleged text, Renner, who welcomed son PJ Washington III in 2021, wrote to Washington, “Thank you! Also, can you send the $2,750 school deposit needed when you send the [child support] check too, so I can get that handled today.”
Washington, 27, responded, “Thats [sic] what child is for.” Renner, 33, replied, “You pay $5,500 for child support and are responsible for his school fees, which are separate.” Renner continued, “That is what you agreed to. You can look over the agreement to refresh your memory, but I need to get it handled ASAP.” He responded, “I’ve also been paying for school, and you chose not to take him, so by you paying the deposit, I know for fact he will be there.”
Washington’s outlook off the court appears to be a hot mess at the moment. Renner reportedly sent him a screenshot of an alleged text conversation. Renner appeared to tell him to stop payment on their son’s school in Los Angeles due to her wanting to leave California.
In another alleged text conversation, he told Renner, “Money sent the least you can do is buy him clothes and shoes with the CHILD SUPPORT. And take him to the barber shop damn.”
He added, “I’ll gladly take him full time from you I have zero problems with that [sic].” Renner replied, “Nobody asked you to do that. I am asking you to execute what is in our agreement. Which includes his school fees which are separate from the monthly. Reading is fundamental.”
Renner is allegedly struggling to make ends meet and cannot provide her son a life similar to Washington’s. She said that her current child support payments will comprise 0.30% of his monthly income, roughly half a percent of what he earns.
Washington was ordered to pay $5,500 per month in child support to Renner for their son. He was also ordered to pay a $130,000 lump sum to cover Renner’s attorney fees and any existing child support. Renner is reportedly demanding $35,000 per month.
Renner is a reality television star, but her primary income source from “Basketball Wives” ended in June — a tough situation since relocating to California in 2024. Renner’s request is quite high, but we’ll see how things play out in family court. Washington’s future earnings are large for now, with a four-year, $90 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks.
