ESPN host Skip Bayless has never been shy about calling out James Harden, and after Monday night’s Eastern Conference Finals Game 4, the veteran sports host had all the ammunition he needed to make his point stick once again.
“James Harden in tonight’s home closeout game: 0-6 from 3 with 5 turnovers. Predictable.” Bayless posted those words on X following Cleveland’s 130-93 elimination loss to the New York Knicks.

The stats gave that word serious weight. Harden finished Game 4 with just 12 points on 2-of-8 shooting, missed all six of his three-point attempts, and committed five turnovers while logging a minus-19 plus-minus.
Even after the dust settled, Harden appeared disconnected from the magnitude of the loss. Speaking to reporters following the 130-93 defeat, Harden said, “I do feel we are the better team. But series-wise didn’t show it, so tough question to answer.”
This statement showed he was totally out of touch. This was clearly not a good series for Cleveland, and they lost every game by 10 or more points. In fact, they lost at home in a deciding game by 37 points.
This made it almost impossible for anyone to view the results of the series as closely contested. Harden’s stats for the series were also horrible, averaging 16 points, 4.3 turnovers, and a terrible shooting percentage of 17.9% on threes.
The results were really bad for the Cavs, but Harden’s showing and the Cavs getting eliminated also sadly added more to Harden’s already horrible legacy of playoff performances.
Harden is now 191 playoff games deep and still searching for that elusive championship ring, landing him just behind Karl Malone for the record for most playoff appearances without one.
Harden reaches a milestone he now shares with Malone. They are both stuck with 98 playoff wins, a mark most would not want associated with their legacy.
Harden is cementing this poor milestone while also not budging to the overwhelming backlash.
Brian Windhorst was clear on ESPN 850 Cleveland that, “This is not theoretical, James Harden will be back with the Cavs next year, it will be for multiple years guaranteed.”
That confirmation creates a genuine issue for Cleveland’s front office. If the Cavaliers wish to target LeBron James this summer, Harden’s multi-year contract is a financial obstacle that complicates every roster decision they make in the future.
