According to Matt Moore of Hardwood Paroxysm, the Boston Celtics want a first-round pick in a Jrue Holiday trade.
The Celtics could trade Holiday this offseason to decrease their payroll.
“While the focus has been on reducing payroll, sources have told the Paroxysm that Boston is setting the price at a first-round pick along with whatever reduced salary comes back in the deal,” Moore wrote.
The Celtics will have the most expensive roster in the NBA next season if no changes are made this offseason. Star forward Jayson Tatum could miss the entire 2025-26 season recovering from his right Achilles tendon tear.
The Los Angeles Clippers and Dallas Mavericks are interested in trading for Holiday, who will make $32,400,000 next season.
Holiday appeared in 62 games for the Celtics this season. He averaged 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists while shooting 44.3% from the field, 35.3% from beyond the arc and 90.9% from the free-throw line.
In the 2025 playoffs, Holiday averaged 10.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists in seven games against the Orlando Magic and New York Knicks.
After winning the championship last year against the Mavericks, the Celtics lost to the Knicks in this year’s conference semifinals.
Holiday has played for the Philadelphia 76ers, New Orleans Pelicans, Milwaukee Bucks and Celtics. The UCLA product and two-time NBA champion has career averages of 15.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists.
Boston acquired Holiday from the Portland Trail Blazers in 2023. The Bucks traded Holiday to the Trail Blazers in the blockbuster Damian Lillard trade.
