According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the Sacramento Kings have been linked to Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday and Washington Wizards guards Marcus Smart and Malcolm Brogdon.
The Kings are looking for a point guard after trading De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs.
“New general manager Scott Perry, remember, immediately highlighted the Kings’ need for improved playmaking during his introductory press conference and sources have duly linked Sacramento to various guards known to be available this summer,” Fischer wrote. “That list includes Holiday in Boston and Marcus Smart in Washington … and stretches to more affordable free agent ballhandlers like Malcolm Brogdon.”
The Celtics are open to trading Holiday this offseason to lower their payroll. Holiday will make $32,400,000 next season.
Smart will make $21,586,856 next season in the final year of his contract. The Memphis Grizzlies traded him to the Wizards this season.
Brogdon becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason. He played for Washington this season.
The Kings made the playoffs in 2023 for the first time since 2006. Although they lost to the Golden State Warriors in the first round in seven games, it appeared Sacramento had a bright future with Fox and Domantas Sabonis leading the way.
However, the Kings missed the playoffs last year and this year. Mike Brown was fired as head coach this season and Fox was traded to the Spurs.
Sacramento acquired Zach LaVine from the Chicago Bulls in the Fox trade. The team lost to the Dallas Mavericks in the 9-10 play-in game at home.
